Footwear has come a long way since primitive man tied a few pieces of bark onto their feet so they could hunt over pointy rocks and not damage their feet. Now, as it has been for millennia, fashion enters into our footwear. Certainly, we often use footwear to keep our feet cool or warm, or to give them protection. There are also many forms of designer sandals, boots and slippers to make our feet beautiful to look at, while they are kept cool or warm or protected. People love to decorate themselves and dress for the benefit of others, and it's been this way for thousands of years. Social history always factors into it but people will wear what they want to, when they can. Anyway, today we can have several pairs of each basic type of footwear -- boots, sandals, shoes in a few different kinds -- and they will form the mainstay of our wardrobe.
